Carl conducts Violin POV IIINational Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu announced on December 2nd that The National Repertory Orchestra is one of 919 nonprofit organizations nationwide and one of 17 to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The NRO will receive a $10,000 grant to support its professional development program for young musicians.

Each year, the NRO auditions more than 900 applicants and selects 88 to spend the summer in Breckenridge.  During the eight week season, the orchestra performs eighteen concerts, giving the musicians invaluable real-world experience with world-class conductors.  Those activities also fulfill an important economic role in Summit County and measurably enrich the quality of life to those who live in and visit the mountain communities.

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said, “I’m pleased to be able to share the news of our support through Art Works including the award (given to) The National Repertory Orchestra.  The arts foster value, connection, creativity and innovation for the American people and these recommended grants demonstrate those attributes and affirm that the arts are part of our everyday lives.”

NRO Chief Executive Officer Doug Adams said, “We welcome the news of this important grant not only for its monetary value but also because it is rewarding to see the work of the NRO recognized by the national arts community.”

Art Works grants support the creation of art, public engagement with art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of the livability of communities through the arts. The NEA received 1,474 eligible applications under the Art Works category, requesting more than $75 million in funding. Of those applications, 919 are recommended for grants for a total of $26.6 million.
