Bio:
Micah Hyink is an up-coming junior violin performance major studying with Dr. Brandon Ironside at Bob Jones University. Second of nine children, Micah was born in Greenville, South Carolina; grew up in Seattle, Washington; and now resides in Carbondale, Illinois. Micah has orchestra experience in both the Seattle Youth Symphony and the Bellevue Youth Symphony in which he won the annual concerto competition in 2020. Micah enjoys a variety of genres, especially film scores. Outside of music, Micah loves baseball and is an avid Detroit Tigers fan.

Who are your all-time favorite composers and/or pieces? Why?
My favorite composer is Dimitri Shostakovich. His music is very emotionally powerful, especially the Leningrad symphony
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
Seven of my eight siblings play string instruments.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
I like to play baseball, mountain bike, and read about WW2.
Why did you choose the NRO?
I chose the NRO because of the affordability and the focus on orchestra repertoire that I will encounter later on in my professional career.
