Martha Sprague began studying cello at the age of 8 in Beijing, China. Her pre-college music education later moved to Seattle with Mara Finkelstein and Dr. Jared Ballance. Now at the Cleveland Institute of Music, she studies with Sharon Robinson. Highlights of her career so far include prizes from the Cleveland Cello Society and the Northwest Sinfonietta as well as summers at the Bowdoin International Music Festival.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I cannot watch more than fifteen minutes of a movie without falling asleep.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Reading and journaling.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I hope to learn how to juggle an intense orchestra schedule with personal practice.
