Bio:
Jowen Hsu is currently studying with Nicholas Cords at the New England Conservatory. She began learning the viola at the age of nine. Initially, she was the worst student in her class, but after meeting an inspiring teacher, she began to take practicing seriously and made music an important part of her life.
What inspired you to become a musician?
I met a teacher when I was very little and she told me I could be a good viola player.
Name three of your favorite composers:
The beginning of Beethoven violin concerto third movement it makes me so full of energy when I feel depressed!
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
I am a violist who started by playing the violin.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Walking became one of my favorite things to do after I came to the United States to attend school in Boston.
Why did you choose the NRO?
I really want more experience playing with an orchestra.
