Eugene Zhang is a musician from Toronto, Canada, studying with Joseph Conyers in the Columbia-Juilliard exchange program. He was a 2022 National Orchestral Institute Orchestra Fellow, and previously attended the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and Orford Music Academy. He enjoys exploring all facets of music-making, as Principal Bass of the Columbia University Orchestra, bassist in the Louis Armstrong Jazz Program, and Co-Music Director and arranger-conductor for Columbia Pops.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I am also an avid jazz bass player, and I just performed live for Hillary Clinton!

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I look forward to gaining experience in a professional environment, learning a ton of new repertoire and techniques, and exploring how to better give back to the community.
