Bio:
Ohio native Derek Gullett began trombone studies at age 12. Throughout high school, he served as the principal trombonist of numerous youth and professional ensembles. Now studying with Nitzan Haroz, Matthew Vaughn, and Blair Bollinger at the Curtis Institute of Music, he has performed with many ensembles around Philadelphia. He has toured the world and performed throughout Europe and the U.S. His previous teachers include James Albrecht and Richard Stout.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I used to be an internationally-ranked Mario Kart player. Nowadays I take it easy.

Name three of your favorite composers:
Gustav Mahler, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Alban Berg.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Spending time and playing with my cat, Petra.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I am looking forward to performing so much fantastic music with other amazing musicians.
