Robert Tuohy (NRO Assistant Conductor, 2003) has recently been named Music Director of l’Opéra-Théâtre de Limoges and l’Orchestre de Limoges et du Limousin in France starting with the 2013-14 season. Highlights from this first season include a highly-acclaimed production of Carmen, about which Opéra Magazine wrote, “Robert Tuohy is one of the major artists in the success of this performance. From the pit and the stage alike he obtains a result of beautiful precision, never routine, never banal. Even in the most famous passages, he establishes a perfectly-judged dramatic tension, avoiding all extraneous bombast.” Other projects include symphonic concerts featuring the music of Barber, Beethoven, Dvořák, Mozart, Ravel, Stravinsky and Wagner, as well as a new production of Der Freischütz in 2015.
From 2009-13 Robert was Assistant Conductor of l’Opéra et Orchestre National de Montpellier, where he worked alongside Music Director Lawrence Foster and conducted performances of Die Fledermaus and Rusalka, as well as highly-praised productions of Lakmé and Manon Lescaut.
