ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT – Katie Grunwald, Personnel Intern for the National Repertory Orchestra in 2012, is now the Major Gifts and Circles Assistant for the Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Katie earned a master’s in arts administration from Florida State University in May of 2013, just two months before starting her new job in the nation’s capital. She also holds a B.M. in music performance with a business minor from Appalachian State University. “Of course I learned a lot in college and grad school,” said Katie, “but the NRO internship provided invaluable, hands-on experience working with musicians, staff and donors, experience that ultimately led me here to the Kennedy Center.”
As a flutist, Katie has a passion for music and for making music accessible to others. So she is particularly proud of the Kennedy Center’s many initiatives to make the arts more accessible to the community, such as the free performance each night on the Millennium Stage. Reflecting upon what has been a whirlwind year, Katie credits both the NRO and the Washington National Opera for making it possible for her to follow her passions while being surrounded by incredible music and artistic creativity each and every day.
It is success stories like these that should make you proud to be a supporter of the NRO! All NRO Board Members and Staff are very proud of Katie and many other NRO alumni that have gone on to do great things!!
