Planned Giving

The NRO Endowment Trust

The Trust was established in 2004 to provide long-term financial support for the organization. A portion of its annual investment earnings are utilized to support the orchestras’ programs and operations. Your endowment gift provides a sustainable financial foundation for the NRO, ensuring a reliable source of income to support our mission, musicians and programming.

Walter Charles Legacy Society

Established in 2004, the Society recognizes individuals who have included the National Repertory Orchestra in their will, trust, retirement plan or other estate-planning arrangements. When you include the National Repertory Orchestra in your estate plan, you will be recognized as a member of the Walter Charles Legacy Society, if you so choose, and keep you informed of performances and initiatives. You can join the Walter Charles Legacy Society by completing the non-legally binding Notification Form, or by contacting the NRO Development Office.

Please contact the Director of Development, Åsa Armstrong, [email protected] or (970) 453-5825 x3 to discuss how your gift can help further our mission.

How can I make a planned gift?

A planned gift is more than a donation; it is an investment in the next generation of National Repertory Orchestra musicians and the future of classical music. There are many ways to support the National Repertory Orchestra with a planned gift.

Gifts for the future

Future gifts let you retain the assets you need during your lifetime and allow you to give generously in the future:

  • Remember the NRO in your will or living trust. See Gift Language.
  • Designate the NRO as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), bank or investment account, or other assets.
  • Make a gift of life insurance

To notify the NRO about your gift intent, please use the Notification Form.

Gifts that provide tax benefits now and lifetime income

Create a charitable remainder trust: Your irrevocable trust will make payments to you or other beneficiaries for your lifetime or a specified term, after which the Orchestra receives the remainder.

Gifts for the future

Make a gift of cash or appreciated securities such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, which can minimize capital gains and/or income taxes for you. You can give to either:

  • The Annual Fund, for the Orchestra’s ongoing operation or education mission.
  • The Endowment, where it will be held in perpetuity with earnings directed toward the organization’s education mission.

For gifts of stock, please refer to our wire transfer instructions.

Harriett Bobo’s Transformational Gift

Harriett Bobo’s love for music was contagious. Rarely did she miss an opportunity to attend a concert, masterclass, or seminar. Her desire to help others was even greater.

The notion that she could impact young, professional musicians’ lives through education inspired her to participate, volunteer and contribute to the NRO every year while providing a planned gift.

While Harriett surely never imagined passing away at age 75, she had in place an estate planning provision that proved to be transformational for the NRO. Her gift will not only continue Changing Lives Through Music now and for future generations, it will also be her lasting legacy.
