Paul Hafley

Paul was the winner of the 2020 International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist and Orchestral Competitions and was the first-ever to win both competitions in the same year. Mr. Hafley served as the Principal Clarinetist of the Corinth Symphony Orchestra from 2017-2019. Previous Festival appearances include Sunflower Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Round Top Festival Institute, and Brevard Music Center. As a soloist, Paul has performed with Sinfonietta Memphis, as well as the University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Mr. Hafley has studied with acclaimed clarinetists and pedagogues such as Jonathan Gunn, Michael Wayne, Yehuda Gilad, Frank Renk, and Robyn Jones. Mr. Hafley currently studies at The University of Texas at Austin with previous studies at New England Conservatory and The University of Memphis.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Playing disc golf or watching football.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
Playing with other amazing musicians after isolating for over a year!!
