Nicolas Richard was appointed Principal Bassoon of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra in 2019. He is currently pursuing his Master’s of Music at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music under the tutelage of Benjamin Kamins and previously studied with Christopher Millard. Nicolas won the second prize in the 2020 Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Competition and is the first prize winner of the National Arts Centre Orchestra Bursary Competition, the Ottawa Symphony’s Sénécal-Mozart Prize, and the University of Ottawa’s Concerto Competition.
What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
Getting to play great music with nice people and going on as many hikes as possible.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Playing chess.
