NRO’s tuition-free Summer Music Festival is the chance of a lifetime for musicians.

The National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) is thrilled to announce auditions will open for the 2022 concert season on Monday, November 1, 2021!

As the snow makes its welcomed Rocky Mountain return, NRO Music Director Michael Stern and staff have eyes on an exhilarating season in Breckenridge, Colorado, June 19 – August 14, 2022. The NRO Summer Music Festival is tuition-free and provides complimentary housing, a food stipend, solo opportunities, and crucial experiential learning. NRO

Staying true to its longtime mission of, Changing Lives Through Music, the NRO is known for preparing young professional musicians between the ages of 18 and 29 for a successful career in music.  The festival offers more repertoire than any other program of its kind. Currently, there are NRO alumni in every major orchestra throughout the nation.

During the festival, musicians will experience thoughtful and preeminent training, opening windows to diverse and new ideas while balancing the traditions of classical music. Musicians will have the chance to perform nearly 20 full orchestra concerts with a variety of works from living composers including, Katherine Balch, Valerie Coleman, Jessie Montgomery, Samy Moussa, Carlos Simon and more. Repertoire highlights feature Copland’s Symphony No. 3, Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5, to name a few.

Guest conductors will be NRO Music Advisor Carl Topilow, Teddy Abrams, JoAnn Falletta, Nic McGegan, Steven Schick and Jason Seber. Musicians will also create their own interactive chamber music program as part of the NRO’s Community Engagement initiative to encourage positive social change.

This year, musicians can audition in the comfort of their space and convenience of their schedule until Friday, February 11, 2022!  The NRO is exclusively offering recorded video auditions and an early application fee of just $40 until December 10, 2021.

Application Fees and Deadlines

$40 from November 1, 2021, until December 10, 2021

$65 from December 11, 2021, until January 14, 2022

$85 from January 15, 2022, until February 11, 2022

*All fees are non-refundable, non-transferable, and applicable until the deadline date at 11:59 PM, MST. The NRO will not be hosting live or in-person auditions and will accept video submissions only.

A small group may have the opportunity to perform for the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts through August 21, 2022. The offer is not mandatory, and musicians will be invited based on their availability and instrumentation.
