Growing up in Germany, Sophia was exposed to classical music from an early age, and her performances today are still shaped by her early music training, with an emphasis on ensemble playing and collaboration.

What inspired you to become a musician?
Growing up with classical music and going to orchestra concerts from a young age.

Name your favorite composers and/or pieces:
Mozart, Brahms, Clara, and Robert Schumann.

What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
I have three amazing siblings who also used to play string instruments so we had our own string quartet!

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Biking, hiking and reading.

Why did you choose the NRO?
The last two summers with the NRO were the most fulfilling music experiences I have ever had. I love being fully committed to orchestra for eight weeks and learning such a high volume of repertoire. I learned so much from Michael Stern and other musicians- knowledge and ideas that have helped me with the process of audition preparation for the past two years. I hope that this summer will be just as rewarding and enriching, and I’m looking forward to new repertoire and meeting new people.
