Oboist Sooyoung Kim, a native of South Korea, holds a master’s degree from Colburn School where she studied with Eugene Izotov and Mingjia Liu. Sooyoung is going to start her fellowship at the New World Symphony in Miami form 2023-2024 season. As an active performer, Sooyoung has played with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and appeared at the Pacific Music Festival. Sooyoung was awarded 2nd Prize in the 2021 IDRS Gillet-Fox Competition. Previously, Sooyoung studied with Misung Lee and Jung Choi at Seoul National University.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I played flute and violin before I started playing oboe.

Knitting, Swimming

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I’m looking forward to meeting amazing musicians and learning and performing lots of new orchestral repertoire with them.
