What inspired you to become a musician?
While I’ve played Horn since middle school, competing in the Fischoff International Chamber Competition my Junior year of high school really solidified this as what I want to do. Watching groups from the Senior Division and seeing just how far music could be taken on my instrument, as well as others, was incredibly inspiring.
Name your favorite composers and/or pieces:
Mahler 7, especially after seeing it live. And anything by Shostakovich.
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
I used to play rugby back in high school.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
I love going to the gym, and getting a good workout in is always a great way to take a break from the high demand of playing Horn.
Why did you choose the NRO?
The NRO is an extremely well known and respected institution where I am very confident I will learn so much about music making that will benefit me now, and many years down the road. Also, the sheer volume of repertoire we get to play will really prepare me for a professional career. Plus the location can’t get better than in the middle of the Colorado Mountains. The natural beauty and outdoor activities are such a huge draw.
