Bio:
Nicholas Peterson-Hunt is currently pursuing trumpet performance at the Shepherd School of Music with Barbara Butler. Some of his accomplishments include winning the Oregon Solo Trumpet Championship three years in a row and playing Vassily Brandt’s Concertpiece No. 2 at the Western International Band Clinic. When he’s not in the practice room, he loves running—he just finished his first marathon at the Houston Marathon!
What inspired you to become a musician?
Seeing the Oregon Symphony perform Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony when I was twelve was life-changing because of the power of the brass section.
Name your favorite composers and/or pieces:
My favorite composer has got to be Strauss for his beautiful melodies and intertwining orchestration.
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
The trumpet was valveless until around 1820, meaning the Haydn’s famous Trumpet Concerto was written for an incomplete instrument!
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
I love running long distance, and I hope to get into trail running!
Why did you choose the NRO?
I chose NRO because of the huge range of repertoire we will be exploring this summer, the beautiful place it takes place in, and the outdoor chamber concerts that I have heard others talk about as being one of the best experiences. Being a young musician, the number one thing that will help me is to experience more music, which is exactly what NRO will do with its 22 concerts!
