What inspired you to become a musician?

One of my earliest musical memories is hearing Ravel's Rhapsodie Espagnole when I was about 10. I was amazed how so many people could sound like one instrument.

Name your favorite composers and/or pieces:

I am very inspired by jazz bassoonist Michael Rabinowitz, he is bringing our instrument into new territory and writing beautiful music.

What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?

My bassoon was built in 1929 and was originally played in the U.S. Marine Band.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?

I love trains and am a conductor on a heritage railroad in Ohio. I also enjoy running and exercise.

Why did you choose the NRO?

I love how much repertoire and playing time NRO provides compared to other festivals. I appreciate the independence and autonomy that we are given as musicians and hope that this will prepare me for an orchestral career. Additionally, the natural beauty of Breckenridge is unmatched.
