Bio:
As a freelancer in the central Texas area, Michael Woodard has performed with the Central Texas Philharmonic, San Antonio Symphony, and Houston Symphony. In past summers he has attended the Texas Music Festival, Sarasota Music Festival, and Britt Festival. He has been fortunate to have many wonderful mentors, but the teachings of Jeff Garza, Gregory Hustis, William VerMeulen, and Robert Johnson have most defined him as a horn player.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
Coming from a family just as rooted in healthcare as music I came close to pursuing a career in medicine. Rotating through several departments at the University Hospital in San Antonio as a student observer was a highlight of high school for me. It turns out I’m definitely not squeamish in the operating room!

Name three of your favorite composers:
John Williams, Richard Strauss, Richard Wagner

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
I enjoy exercising at the gym or visiting one of the many beautiful parks Houston has to offer with my wife and our dog. I also enjoy relaxing with a good sci-fi book, and exploring Houston’s extensive culinary scene.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
Playing through an interesting and diverse list of repertoire with amazing colleagues (and escaping another hot Texas summer).
