Kate MacKenzie is entering her third year at Oberlin Conservatory, where she studies with Peter Slowik. In past summers, she has attended the Brevard Summer Institute and Eastern Music Festival. In 2022, she was selected as a member of Eastern Music Festival’s first-ever Strings Leadership Program. She also loves playing folk music and performed for years with Greensboro’s Walker Street Fiddlers.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
Pets outnumber people in my family- we have a dog, two cats, and four chickens.

Igor Stravinsky, York Bowen, Claude Debussy

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Read, hike, occasionally embroider.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I hope to become a better version of myself as a musician, leader, and friend.
