Bio:
Gerald Liu is currently pursuing a Masters of Music in Viola Performance at the University of Texas. He holds a Bachelors in Physics and has worked as a petroleum researcher, acoustics researcher, podcaster, school teacher, and real estate agent. In his spare time, Gerald likes to hike, read, play games, and research fine violin family instruments, He lives with his girlfriend and two guinea pigs, Garbanzo and Cannellini, in Austin, TX.
What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I spent a long time in my life with viola as a hobby because I was focused on pursuing other careers. I considered pursing petroleum engineering, civil engineering, geophysics, acoustical engineering, school science teacher, real estate agent, violin sales, and podcast creator. I am so happy to be focusing on music full time. Now to figure out how to make money doing it!
I also am really into backpacking and hiking and really love animals and bugs. I try to be kind to all living beings which is why I am a vegetarian.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
Reading, hiking, puzzles, looking at beautiful instruments/bows
What are you most looking forward to this summer with the NRO?
I am looking forward to playing the huge list of rep planned. It’d also be wonderful to connect to all the musicians, supporters, and staff making this huge event possible. Colorado is also a beautiful place, and I am thinking it will be inspiring to be there this summer.
