Bio:
Emily DeNucci, age 18, is currently studying Flute Performance with Jeffrey Khaner at the Curtis Institute of Music. Her former teachers include Greig Shearer and Sonora Slocum. This past summer, she had the opportunity to tour across North America with both Curtis on Tour and NYO-USA. In December, she was invited to play principal flute for the NY String Orchestra Seminar, which included two performances at Carnegie Hall.

What inspired you to become a musician?
Listening to my first teacher, Greig Shearer, play in the Hartford Symphony Orchestra inspired me to become a musician.

Who are your all-time favorite composers and/or pieces? Why?
My all-time favorite composers are Sibelius, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninoff.

What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
An interesting fact about me is I like to play card games.

When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
My favorite thing to do besides music-making is either sleeping or hiking.

Why did you choose the NRO?
I chose the NRO because of the opportunity to play such a significant amount of repertoire during this festival.
