Bio:
Colin Roberts is a double bassist born in Busan, South Korea, and raised in Houston, Texas. He’s currently under the tutelage of Eric Larson of the Houston Symphony at the University of Houston. This past summer, Colin attended the Texas Music Festival and was a finalist for their annual Concerto Competition. He has also been an honorable mention for the University of Houston Concerto Competition and a finalist for the Baylor Concerto Competition.
What inspired you to become a musician?
Being able to put a smile on the listeners face. Opening the audience to new feelings and memories is what it is all about.
Who are your all-time favorite composers and/or pieces? Why?
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Giovanni Bottesini, Antonín Dvořák – Listening to their music will put you in another atmosphere, while also telling a story.
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
I’m proud to have been adopted from South Korea as an infant and hope to go back someday to meet my birth family.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
I love to play and keep up with basketball as well as call myself a bit of a “foodie”.
Why did you choose the NRO?
The reputation of NRO is highly recognized. To advance my career, I believe the National Repertory Orchestra is the right place for me to grow and blossom as a musician. I hope to meet many wonderful people and grow as a person and a musician.
