What inspired you to become a musician?
The first time I watched a symphony orchestra performance, I sat behind the stage, directly above the percussion section. I could see all of their movements, and I thought it would be so exciting to do what they do.
Name your favorite composers and/or pieces:
Operas by Puccini. I’m here for the drama.
What is an interesting fact about you and/or your instrument?
I started with oboe but I broke too many reeds in my first week and the teacher made me switch.
When taking a break from music-making, what is your favorite thing to do?
When I have the time, I make really good chocolate chip cookies.
Why did you choose the NRO?
The National Repertory Orchestra will give me the opportunity to grow as an orchestral percussionist in an intensive and collaborative musical environment. For percussionists, this intensive orchestral training is especially valuable because the role requires both individual responsibility and strong ensemble awareness. The opportunity to rotate through different instruments, collaborate closely with the section, and respond to the musical needs of the orchestra will help me deepen my understanding of orchestral color, balance, and timing. I am also excited by the chance to learn from the conductors and guest artists who will work with the orchestra this summer. Their perspectives on interpretation and professional expectations are invaluable as I continue preparing for a career as both a performer and educator. Finally, spending the summer making music in Breckenridge with a community of dedicated musicians will be an inspiring environment for artistic growth and meaningful collaboration.
