Michael Ayala studies Viola Performance and Performing Arts Management at the University of Michigan under Professor Yizhak Schotten. Michael was a teacher with the Sphinx Overture program and is a Community Engagement and Education Intern with the Ann Arbor Symphony. Hispanic representation in classical music is his passion. He is creating a nonprofit, the San Antonio Chamber Organization, to provide higher-level chamber music education to low-income, primarily Hispanic, San Antonio areas.

What is something interesting that people may not know about you?
I spend a lot of time learning about epidemiology as it was something that I really wanted to go into besides music in college. Some friends may think it’s weird, but I love learning about viruses and diseases as in another life, I would want to find the cure to all of them.

Who do you consider the most meaningful person in your life?
My parents. Even though it took a lot of effort to persuade them to allow me to follow music, they have always been my biggest supporters.
