Jenny NeyJenny Ney, 2012 NRO horn, has been taking NYC by storm.  She has been an active freelance musician in the New York City area and currently has many exciting things going on in her professional life.

She is a member of 2014-2016 Ensemble ACJW in NYC, a two-year fellowship program through Carnegie Hall, Juilliard, and the Weill Institute in partnership with the NYC Department of Education. Fellows perform chamber works and also do community and public school outreach work. Watch this video to find out more about Ensemble ACJW…

Jenny is also on the teaching artist faculty of the New York Philharmonic. Through that, she visits 3rd grade classes at two NYC public schools, where major orchestral repertoire is used to teach students how to listen, perform, and compose.  She is preparing them to hear concerts in their own school and at the Philharmonic.

When Jenny is not busy teaching, you can find her subbing on Broadway and preparing for her performance with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular show this season.  Jenny exclaims, “It’s a busy time between all these commitments and other freelance work, but I’m really enjoying the major performing opportunities and the balance between teaching and playing!”

As for her time with the NRO, Jenny states, “My summer at NRO was extremely helpful in teaching me how to handle a full schedule of performance commitments. That summer I was lucky to work with a group of amazing musicians, performing great works on many concerts with relatively little rehearsal time. Learning to handle that pressure has really served me well in the busy world of freelancing!”

The NRO wishes Jenny all the best in her many endeavors!
