Katherine Williamson smallKatherine Williamson, a violinist with the NRO in 2013, has accepted a one year position this season with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Rockefeller String Quartet.

A native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, Katherine is a recent graduate of Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music where she received a Bachelor of Music with distinction under the instruction of Mark Kaplan.  She has played with numerous orchestras worldwide, most recently subbing with the New World Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Owensboro Symphony and last summer with the Moritzburg Festival Academy Orchestra in Germany.

Her new appointment encompasses many different things. In addition to performing orchestra concerts with the ASO, Katherine performs chamber recitals with the quartet, works with the symphony guild to put on educational violin demonstrations for children of the Little Rock public school system, and also puts on string demonstrations for children with the string quartet.

Katherine says, “My experience at NRO this past summer has prepared me very well not only because of the musical and artistic opportunities it provides, but because NRO is unyielding with it’s vigorous and demanding schedule, I have been extremely well prepared for my new position. NRO teaches its students how to manage the challenges that come with playing for hours and hours at a time and how to move from one thing to the next very quickly while still enjoying your life. I’m very grateful for the knowledge I received spending a summer in beautiful Breckenridge.”

Congratulations to Katherine and the best of luck from your NRO family!
